WWII U.S. Army Artillery Private Southwest Pacific Forces Tunic, Shirt and Overseas Cap

The four pocket tunic retains a Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot tag which is dated 1940 and marked as a size 40 Long. The olive wool shirt is tagged as a size 16-33. The tunic and shirt are accompanied by the overseas cap which is piped in red to reflect service in the artillery branch. The interior of the cap bears a blurred laundry mark which appears to be “S-8554”. Both the tunic and the shirt carry the shoulder sleeve insignia of the U.S. Army forces in the Southwest Pacific. The collar carries “U.S.” and Coastal Artillery clutch back disks. Both sleeves have Private First Class rank chevrons, while the lower left sleeve has two overseas service chevrons and a single good conduct service chevron.The upper right breast carries the “Ruptured Duck” honorable discharge patch and above the right pocket are ribbons which include the Good Conduct Medal and the Pacific Campaign Medal. Below the ribbons is a marksmanship medal with bars for “Rifle” and “Machine Gun”. The tunic shows scattered small holes, primarily on the lower rear skirt.
