WWII Shin Gunto Army Officer Sword with Company Commander Tassel

The shin gunto sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 38 inches, with a blade length of approximately 25 inches. The blade exhibits some small dark spots on the forward cutting edge of one side, as well as minor signs of age, but it is generally clean, while also displaying a visible and temper line. The tang has two mounting holes and it is unsigned. The grip is covered in light sharkskin, and it is tightly wrapped in the traditional manner with brown fabric which shows some darkening from handling. Beneath the fabric on each side of the grip are the standard military menuki of three cherry blossoms, with a darkly toned gilt finish. The tsuba guard is the solid style with four raised cherry blossoms in relief. The steel scabbard retains its olive brown paint. Tied to the pommel ring is the blue and brown sword tassel of a company grade officer. Overall the sword is in very good condition. We photographed the sword with with retaining peg removed – we will put it back in when we ship it.
