WWII Schlueter Rear Seam Swivel Bale M1 U.S. Navy Corpsman Helmet

The exterior, cork infused, battleship gray paint is largely intact, showing spots, abrasions, and an area of paint loss on the top which reveals the original olive drab paint beneath the gray. The front of the helmet displays the red cross of a Navy Corpsman. The front interior of the helmet shell bears a heat stamp of “431A” above the Schlueter “S” mark (baby powder was applied to the helmet interior to bring out the markings for the listing photograph, and it was then wiped off of the helmet). The helmet liner is present, with no readily discernible maker mark on the interior. The web chin strap is present on the helmet, with the metal components showing rust and verdigris consistent with exposure to salt air and water. Overall very good condition, reflecting actual use on board a ship and in the theater of operations, and exhibiting tremendous character.
