WWII OSS Detachment 101 “Jingpaw Rangers” Technical Staff Sergeant Tunic with Shirt

The four pocket tunic is marked as a size 38 Regular. The collar carries clutch back “U.S.” disks. On the upper left breast is the pin back sterling silver “Burma Campaign” bar that was worn by the members of Detachment 101 of the Office of Strategic Services. Detachment 101, also known as the “Jingpaw Rangers”, was the first American unit ever assembled to conduct guerrilla warfare, espionage and sabotage behind enemy lines. Below the “Burma Campaign” bar is the ribbon of the World War II Commemorative Medal of China. There are then two pin back ribbon bars which display the ribbons for the U.S. Army Good Conduct Medal with a clasp denoting a second award; the American Campaign Medal; the Pacific Campaign Medal with four campaign stars; the Air Medal; the American defense Medal; and the World War II Victory Medal with an unauthorized star device. Above the upper right pocket is the Honorable Discharge “Ruptured Duck” patch, below which is the ribbon of the Presidential Unit Citation. Both sleeve carry the rank chevrons of a Technical Staff Sergeant (Technician Third Grade). On the right shoulder is the fully embroidered patch of the China Burma India Theater, while on the left shoulder is the fully embroidered patch of the Jingpaw Rangers. On the lower left sleeve are three overseas service chevrons as well as a single good conduct service stripe. In the lower right pocket is the 1940 dated Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot tag. The tunic is accompanied by an olive wool enlisted or NCO ranks shirt. Both the tunic and the shirt are very clean and without holes or damage. Overall the set is in excellent condition.
