WWII Named / Cased Legion of Merit and Bronze Star Group for Moving Patton’s Third Army at Battle of the Bulge with Documents

The group is comprised of the named and cased Legion of Merit to Lieutenant Robert A. Wright of the 718th Railway Operations Battalion, together with his cased but unnamed Bronze Star Medal and the framed award citations for the decorations. The group also includes the full typed citation for the Legion of Merit, which recognized Wright’s “exceptionally meritorious conduct” for moving General Patton’s Third Army from east of Nancy, France, to the Ardennes front, and subsequently moving the Seventh Army to replace them, during the period of December 16, 1944, to March 11, 1945. Wright was cited for leadership in transporting record tonnages over damaged rail lines under enemy fire to complete the task ahead of schedule. The Legion of Merit is on a slot brooch suspension and it is officially hand engraved “Robert A. Wright”. The medal shows surface grime and tarnish on the brooch, but the enamel is without damage and the medal is in overall very good condition. The medal is contained within it titled black leather case, together with the enamel lapel badge, and the case is contained within the lower section of the protective cardboard box. The box has interior stamps reflecting receipt by the Third Service Command and it is dated May 3, 1946. Also accompanying the medal is the Secretary of War enclosure card. The Bronze Star is unnamed and it is contained within it titled black leather case, together with the ribbon bar and the enamel lapel badge, and the case is contained within the lower section of its protective cardboard box. Overall the group is in excellent condition.
