WWII Japanese Type 97 Kai Gunto Navy Officer Sword Signed Mishina Yoshiaki With Combat Covered Scabbard

The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 39 inches, with a blade length of approximately 25-1/4 inches. The blade is generally bright, with the blade exhibiting some smudges very minor dark spots. The blade displays a visible curvy temper line. The tang is signed Mishina Yoshiaki. The grip is covered in black ray skin, which was then wrapped in the traditional manner with dark brown fabric. Beneath the wrapping on each side is the standard military menuki of three chrysanthemums. The tsuba is iron style with sun rays on both sides. The lacquered wood scabbard has a black leather combat cover which is in very good condition. There is a snap on the upper end of the leather cover, but the retaining strap which would mount to the handle is gone.
