WWII Japanese Sword for Colonial Officials of Taiwan

$875.00

The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 33 inches, with a blade length of approximately 25 inches. The plated blade is generally very bright, with some speckling and disturbance of the plating in spots. The blade has a false temper line that is quite distinct. The rear of the guard folds down onto a locking stud on the scabbard throat. The shark skin grip shows verdigris but it is without damaged and it remains tightly wrapped in brass wire. The back strap bears the double triangle symbol of the Japanese colonial government in Taiwan. The pommel and the guard exhibit a dark and uncleaned patina. The scabbard fittings similarly show a dark and uncleaned patina. The scabbard shows spots and scuffs but it is complete and intact, with some slight shrinkage and center mount is mounted backwards.
