$2,400.00
The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 36 inches, with a blade length of approximately 24-1/2 inches. The sword blade is generally bright, with some spots and scratches, as well as several tiny and barely visible nicks on the cutting edge. The blade displays a visible temper line. The tang is signed “Fujiwara Kanenaga” and it bears the additional designation of “Made using anti rust steel”. The ray skin grip is wrapped in the traditional style with golden brown fabric, with the wrap showing soiling from handling. Beneath the wrapping are the standard military menuki of three cherry blossoms. The tsuba guard is the pierced style, with relief cherry blossoms. The brown scabbard pant is largely intact, showing typical spots and scuffs. A strip of leather was tied through the hole at the top of the pommel, with a company grade officer sword knot then being tied to the leather strip. The sword knot shows wear, with one tassel missing. Fujiwara Kanenaga was a swordsmith, metallurgist, and artisan who pioneered the usage of stainless steel in Japanese swords during the 1920’s & 30’s.
