WWII Japanese Army Officer’s Shin Gunto Sword

The Japanese Army officer’s sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 41 inches, with a blade length of approximately 25-1/2 inches. The blade is generally bright, showing some scattered dark spots and surface dirt. The blade has a visible and distinct temper line, and the tang shows rust on the surfaces and it is unsigned.  The ray skin grip is wrapped in the traditional style with brown fabric. Beneath the wrapping are the traditional military menuki of three cherry blossoms on each side.  The tsuba guard is the pierced style, with relief cherry blossoms. The scabbard retains virtualy all of its olive brown paint. Overall very good condition.
