WWII Japanese Army Officer’s Shin Gunto Sword

The Japanese Army officer’s sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 39 inches, with a blade length of approximately 26 inches. The blade is generally bright, showing spots and surface dirt, as well as a few small inclusions. The blade has a visible and distinct temper line, unsigned.  The ray skin grip is wrapped in the traditional style with golden brown fabric that is quite dark from handling and use in the field. Beneath the wrapping are the traditional military menuki of three cherry blossoms on each side.  The tsuba guard is the solid style, with relief cherry blossoms. The scabbard retains about 90% of its olive brown paint, showing scuffs and abrasions. Overall very good condition.
