WWII German Replacement Wehrpass of an Army Medical Doctor

The cover of the Wehrpass bears the handwritten notation of “Zweitschrift”, indicating that it was a replacement copy of the individual’s Wehrpass which was issued in 1942. According to regulations, a Zweitschrift was created when the original Wehrpass was lost in enemy action or as a result of other circumstances. The Wehrpass was issued for Doctor of medicine Kurt Max Anton Degener, who was born on January 24, 1898, in Koblenz. The Wehrpass reflects that Dr. Degener served in Eisenbahn-Regiment 2 (Railway Regiment 2) in World War I, for which he received the Hindenburg Front Fighter Honor Cross. During the Second World War he served in several medical units, including Motorized Field Hospital 36 and Army Medical Units in locations such as Wissen, Trier, and Metz. The Wehrpass includes additional documents contained within the cover pockets, one of which appears to be a 1925 letter from Degener to his father as well as two document photographs showing Dr. Degener in a civilian suit. Overall the Wehrpass is in excellent condition.
