WWII German Lion Head Officer’s Sword by Robert Klaas

German Army Officer’s Sword with a red ruby eyed lion’s head pommel. The sword features ornate gold gilt brass fittings that depict a full lion’s head and mane, with a oak leaf pattern castings. The base of the crossguard shows an Army style eagle holding a swastika.  Fittings retain about 50% gilt finish,  black celluloid handle is clean with no cracks or chips, tightly wrapped with silver wire wrapping. The bright steel blade is maker stamped by Robert Klaas on the backside, and measures  32-7/8 inches.  The original scabbard is dent-free and retains almost all of the black enameled paint – paint chipping on the ring mount. Attached to the guard is its original officer’s knot in very good condition with light wear.
