WWII German Army Eastern Front Medal and Document Group

Exceptional grouping of the medals, decorations, and award documents of Karl-Heinz Guttke of the 170th Infantry Division. The group consists of:
– Eastern Front War Medal, with award document, the medal contained within its original manufacturer’s paper envelope;
– Crimea Campaign Shield (Krimschild), with award document, the shield lacking its cloth backing;
– War Merit Cross with Swords, Second Class, with award document, the medal contained within its original manufacturer’s paper envelope;
– War Merit Cross with Swords, First Class, with award document, the cross being a high quality early war example, retaining a high degree of its original silvering and polish, and maker marked with the LDO number 62 for Kerbach & sterhelt of Dresden;
– Parade mounted German Army 4 Year Service Medal;
– Ribbon bar with cloth backing, displaying ribbons for the War Merit Cross Second Class With Swords; the Eastern Front Medal; The Army Service Medal with eagle device; and the Romanian Medal for the Crusade Against Communism.
The award documents have two holes on the left side from their original placement in personnel records.
After participating in the invasion of Denmark in 1940, the 170th Infantry Division was involved in the war on the eastern front from the initial invasion of Russia in 1941. It fought in the Crimea and at the siege of Leningrad. The final commander of the Division, Siegfried Hass, was awarded the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross for his service while commanding the division.
The medals and documents of this group are in excellent condition.
