WWII Army Officer Shin Gunto Sword

$1,195.00

World War II period Japanese Imperial Army officer’s sword. The blade is approximately 25 1/2 inches long, with an overall length of approximately 39 inches when within the scabbard. The wooden handle is covered in ray skin and wrapped with fabric in the traditional fashion. There is a crack in the ray skin about 1 inch in length below the peg. The standard military menuki of three cherry blossoms are beneath the wrap. The sword has an olive green painted scabbard that shows some wear but on which the original paint is approximately 90% intact. There is a decorative brass metal tsuba with a relief cherry blossom pattern. The blade is steel with no edge nicks and no active rust, although there are a few gray spots on each side of the blade. A nice temper line remains visible. Overall the blade is bright and in very good condition. The tang beneath the handle is unsigned.
