WWII 1944 Dated Japanese Army Officer Shin Gunto Sword Signed by Yoshiharu
$1,400.00
The officer’s sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 38 1/2 inches with a blade length of approximately 26 inches. The blade is generally very bright with an even horizontal temper line. The blade shows minor scratches and some light spots in areas, but the blade is without nicks, chips, or active rust. The tang is signed “Yoshiharu” (family name “Mitani”) and the opposite side of the tang bears the date of 1944, written as “Showa ‘Wood Monkey'[1944], Autumn”. The tsuba is the familiar military style of brass with cherry blossoms in relief at the corners. The grip is covered in white ray skin and it is wrapped in the traditional fashion in golden brown silk tape. The standard military menuki of three cherry blossoms is beneath the wrapping on both sides. The olive brown scabbard paint is nearly 100% intact. Overall excellent condition.
