WWI Imperial German U-Boat Torpedo Aiming Device From the Submarine UB-80

The device is brass and has an overall length of approximately 14 inches. It is marked at the top of the dial to the UB-80. The dial is marked “Fur Heck rohr” (“For Rear Tube”) and “Für Bugrohr” (“For Bow Tube”), together with other wording. The device has a dark, uncleaned patina. The UB-80 was commissioned in 1917, and it sank 19 merchant ships and 1 auxiliary warship, and damaged 5 merchant ships.  The UB-80 was surrendered to Italy in accordance with the requirements of the Armistice with Germany on 26 November 1918, and it was broken up at La Spezia in May 1919. This torpedo aiming device was undoubtedly removed from the submarine before the boat was destroyed in 1919.
