WWI Imperial German Army Wood Grave Marker

$750.00

The wooden Christian cross is two piece construction and it measures approximately 30 1/2 inches by 38 1/2 inches. The top section has an Iron Cross carved into it. On the cross piece is carved “Res. Otto Karl Rapp R.I.R. 240.11”, indicating that Reservist Rapp served in the 11th Company of Reserve Infantry Regiment 240 (a part of the 52nd Reserve Division). On the lower section of the cross is carved Rapp’s date of death: “5.10.15” (October 5, 1915). On the reverse side of the cross is carved the number “99”. The cross shows age and signs of use, particularly at the base where it was at one time in the ground. On the back of the marker is what appears to be a line of dried sap that flowed from the wood after the marker was made.
