WWI British Tank Crewman Splatter Mask
$2,250.00
The “Splatter Mask” was designed to protect the faces of tank crewmen whose faces were exposed to shrapnel when peering out of gun ports. Developed by the British, they saw use with both American and French personnel. This mask has an old label affixed to the interior which bears the name of a Lieutenant, what appears to be his unit designation, and a handwritten notation which begins “Mask used….”. The label is difficult to read. The mask is padded leather with metal eye coverings and a chain mail mask to protect the lower area of the face. There are cloth ties on each side are present to secure the mask. Very good condition.
