WWI British Distinguished Conduct Medal to a Lancashire Fusiliers Company Sergeant Major

The medal shows fine detail and it is in excellent condition. The edge is named to “240339 C.S. Mjr. J. Shackleton 1/8 Lan. Fus.”. The ribbon shows some adhesive residue. Accompanying  the medal is a file detailing Shackleton’s service, service records of the Lancashire Fusiliers and London Gazette copies.

His citation reads” For conspicuous gallantry and initiative during the attack near Trescault on 27th September 1918. Soon after the start, all of the officer’s in the company and many senior non-commissioned in the company became casualies, he was the mainstay of the company, reorganising the men under heavy fire and leading them forward”.
