WWI American Red Cross in Italy Patch and Photo Group

$975.00

A group which consists of the WWI bullion patch of the American Red Cross units in Italy, together with 18 period photographs which mostly depict American Red Cross and U.S. Army personnel serving overseas. The patch is the bullion insignia which depicts the Lion of St. Mark with its front paw on an open Bible with the letters “ARC” embroidered upon it. The patch is pinned to a piece of a scrapbook page on which is written “American Rec Cross in Italy 1918-1919”. One of the photographs shows a young woman in Red Cross uniform who can be seen to be wearing the Lion of St. Mark patch on the shoulder of her uniform. In other photographs, American soldiers are depicted who are wearing the 1st Army patch as well as patches of the 36th and 41st Divisions. Most of the photographs are approximately 2 1/4 by 4 1/4 inches in size and all but two are still glues to old scrapbook paper which has become dry and brittle. This in only the 2nd ARC in Italy patch that I have seen in 40 years of collecting WWI patches.
