WWI 2nd Division 2nd Bn. 23rd Rgt. Painted M1917 Helmet

An M1917 combat helmet which on the front bears a large painted insignia of the 2nd Battalion of the 23rd Infantry Regiment of the 2nd Infantry Division. The helmet was given a coat of lacquer long ago, and this has darkened over the lat 100 years, but the insignia remains completely visible and it is essentially 100% intact. The helmet has its original liner and a part of the chin strap is present. The helmet shows use and typical wear but it is in overall very good used condition.
