WWI 28th Division Purple Heart / Victory Medal and Insignia Group

The group is comprised of the medals and insignia of Private First Class John Lekas of the 112th Infantry Regiment of the 28th Division. The group includes the Purple Heart, split brooch suspension, officially hand engraved “John Lekas”, with the edge numbered “59770”. The medal shows wear to the gilt finish and to the ribbon. Also with the group is Private Lekas’ Victory Medal with the clasps for “Ypres-Lys”; “Meuse-Argonne”; and “Defensive Sector”. The group further includes a 28th Division shoulder sleeve insignia; the rank chevron of an infantry Private First Class; a “USNG” collar disk; two overseas service chevrons and a discharge chevron; and the Honorable Discharge lapel badge in silver, reflecting the fact that Private Lekas had been wounded in action. The group additionally includes a photocopy of Private Lekas’ Veteran’s Compensation Application. The application states that Lekas was wounded on August 9, 1918, during the Meuse-Argonne action. Overall the group is in very good condition.
