Weimar Period Bavarian Citizen Militia Documents Group

The group is comprised of the serviceman’s identification book (“Wehrmanns-Büchlein”) for Karl Dürr, a member of the Bayerische Einwohnerwehr (Bavarian Citizen Militia), a paramilitary citizen militia active in Bavaria during the turbulent post-World War I Weimar Republic era (circa 1919–1921) before being dissolved under Allied pressure.The last page of the book reflects that Karl Dürr was issued with a K98 Gewehr rifle, serial number 3825. on November 1, 1919. Also with the documents is a Wehrminns-Ausweis (serviceman’s identity card), which also served as a service obligation and gun license (Verpflichtungs- und Waffenschein), issued by the Bavarian Einwohnerwehr on December 1, 1920, for Karl Dürr from Karbach. There is also a 1936 membership card (Mitgliedskarte) from the German Target Shooting Federation (Deutscher Schützenbund), issued in Munich on January 21, 1936, although the name of the holder is “Herrn Martin”. Overall the documents are in very good condition.
