US Pattern 1839 Officer’s Shoulder Belt Plate

Very attractive plate made of solid brass, face with  “US” in gothic script inside an applied copper wreath surrounded by a sunburst. “US” and wreath originally silver plated, none of which remains. The rays of the sunburst are raised and are part of the cast plate. Reverse has three wide hooks, 1 tongue and 2 belt hooks. The condition is extremely good with a remnants of gilt on face and original brown lacquer on the reverse. Measures 2 ½” wide x 3 ¼” tall.  This was the regulation officer’s shoulder belt plate from 1840-1851.
