Untouched Waffen SS M40 Single Decal Combat Helmet

An extraordinary example of a single decal Waffen SS M40 helmet that has remained uncleaned and untouched since 1945.

The helmet retains approximately 95% of its exterior field gray paint, while the exceptional single SS runes decal would also be rated as approximately 95% intact.

The helmet is marked in the interior with “ET64”, reflecting its manufacture by Eisenhttenwerke in Thale and the size of the helmet shell as 64. The rear skirt carries a batch designation of “41”, indicating its manufacture in or about late 1940.

The helmet chin strap is full length, completely intact, manufacturer marked, and dated 1940. The chin strap was fastened over the front rim of the helmet by the SS soldier, and the tautness of the strap, along with the dust and verdigris that is observable on and under the strap, establish that it has not been down off the front of the helmet since it was fastened in place by the Waffen SS owner during the war.

The interior liner is somewhat darkened from wear but it is supple, intact, without tears, and with the original liner draw string still in place.
