Untouched Confederate Civil War Cavalry Saber With Roman Numeral Numbers Under The Guard

The saber has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 43 inches, with a blade length of approximately 35 inches.  The blade is typical Confederate production, with a shallow unstopped fuller, showing no ricasso. The blade has dark areas but it is without nicks, chips, or active rust and makes a fine appearance. The guard has a dark, uncleaned patina. The underside of the guard is marked “XXXX”. The blade is a bit loose where the tang enters the guard, but the sword assembly is secure and intact. The wood grip is covered in oil cloth which shows minor wear. The grip is wrapped with a single strand of wire. The scabbard is a European import example that has clearly been with the sword for the length of its service life, showing wear and use that matches that of the sword. The scabbard exhibits surface rust on both sides, with a few shallow indentations. Overall the saber has immense character and it is in very good condition.
