Third Reich Published Novel: “The Werewolf” by Hermann Löns

Titled “Aus der Bauernchronik Der Wehrwolf von Hermann Lons – Eine Holzschnittfolge von Hans Pape ” (From the Peasant Chronicle: The Wehrwolf by Hermann Löns, A woodcut series by Hans Pape”).  Hardcover, with stiff card covers, and with the cover illustrated with a “Wolfsangel” rune bearing a swastika. Published circa 1942. Approximately 5 inches by 7 inches. 44 pages, with 17 woodblock illustrations. Orignially published in 1910, the short story was reprinted during the Third Reich and used by the Nazis as a propaganda instrument due to its nationalist themes. Towards the end of the war the Hitler Youth was used in an attempt to create guerilla warfare detachments called “Werewolf” units. The volume shows age and wear, but it is complete, intact, and in overall very good condition.
