Third Reich Police Short Clamshell Bayonet by Alcoso
$1,400.00
A Third Reich police bayonet, maker marked with the scales and “ACS” designation of the firm of Alexander Coppel (known as “Alcoso”), and which was manufactured by Alcoso as a short bayonet. This bayonet was not cut down from a longer example. The bayonet has an overall length in the scabbard of 16 inches, with a blade length of 9 1/2 inches. The blade has a wide fuller that stops well short of the tip, indicating that it was specifically produced in this size and not shortened from a longer example. The pommel is a finely detailed eagle head. The obverse cross guard displays oak leaves while the reverse of the guard has the oak leaves on the quillon only. The grip blades are a nicely toned golden brown and are free of cracks or chips. The police eagle on the obverse grip is the silvered variety. Below the obverse cross guard is the Prussian eagle clamshell. The nickel plated surfaces of the blade are exceptionally bright and the blade itself is in excellent condition. The scabbard is brown leather with nickel mounts. The pommel, cross guards, and clamshell components of the bayonet do not appear to have ever been cleaned or polished. The bayonet itself is in overall excellent to near mint condition.
