Third Reich Police NCO Degen by F.W. Holler

A very fine example of the sword carried by a non-commissioned officer of the police in the Third Reich. The overall length of the sword is 37 inches in the scabbard, with a blade length of 31 1/2 inches. The blade has the characteristic matte finish and, while it shows some age smudges, it remains in very good condition. The top of the blade bears the thermometer trademark of F.W. Holler. The leather washer remains in place beneath the guard. The nickel components of the pommel, ferrule, and scabbard throat fitting all have bright and largely intact plating. The unadorned pommel cap is smooth and gives no indication of ever having been removed. The police grip eagle is the silvered variety and is nicely detailed with nice patina. The ebony wood grip shows some wear to the finish but it is free of chips or cracks. The matte black scabbard paint would rate as approximately 90% intact. The scabbard has two quite shallow indentations, about 4 inches and 12 inches up from the bottom, neither one of which are particularly noticeable. Overall a very clean sword in very good condition.
