Third Reich Lion Head Officer Sword by E. & F. Horster with Portepee

The lion head sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 36 inches, with a blade length of approximately 30 inches. The ricasso bears the trademark of the Horster firm on one side, while the opposite side of the ricasso has a distributor name. The blade shows spots and speckling of the plated finish, as well as a film of surface grime, but generally the blade is bright. The black celluloid grip is without chips or cracks and it is triple wrapped with twisted brass wire, with a few loose but unbroken strands. The guard, backstrap, and pommel all show an uncleaned patina. The lion head has faceted red glass eyes and the pommel screw was finished to blend it in with the mane of the lion. The scabbard retains approximately 50 percent of its black paint. The portepee shows age toning and some fraying of the strap.
