Third Reich Hitler Youth Drum RZM M10/4/1941

A Hitler Youth formation drum, approximately 21 inches tall and 15 inches in diameter. The top side features a gilt Hitler Youth eagle insignia affixed to the drum. The drum is painted wood, with typical scuffs to the paint from use. The wood body is in very good condition. The drum heads have the original skin surfaces. The top head has a split approximately 3 1/2 inches long. The bottom head has a split that is approximately 1 inch long. All of the original tension ropes are present and they are complete with their leather adjustment slides. One rope has broken and was repaired with a piece of cellophane tape. The metal snare tightener is marked “RZM M 10/4/1941”.The drum is in overall very good condition. A photograph included in this listing shows this type of drum being used by the Hitler Youth at a rally. The photograph is from the internet and a copy is not included with the drum.
1941 regulations regarding musical units/training in the HJ/DJ show that instruments had to meet certain uniform standards. These minimum requirements are listed and also the instruction that units should obtain instruments through the RZM in case of the raising of new musical units. The regulations state that some instruments had to be RZM-marked where others didn’t. Some had to display a metal HJ Bannadler (Bann eagle) where others didn’t.
