The Nazi Party in Gau Pommern Asks the Supreme Party Court for Leniency for a Party Member

$150.00

The 1935 letter is approximately 8 inches by 11-1/2 inches, with two file folder holes on the side edge. The letter concerns SA Strumbannführer Erich Zarmer in Gau Pommern. Apparently, Zarmer was not only an SA officer but also a court assessor in the area who became, with other party members, the subject of Party court proceedings in the Pommern Gau. Evidently he was punished with a warning by the local Party Court and he now sought to resign his position. The Nazi Party in Gau Pommern sent this letter to the Supreme Court of the Nazi Party in Munich to ask that Zarmer’s request to resign his position be granted. The fact that the letter was written suggests that the local party in Pommern might have been attempting to stave off more serious punishment for their local comrade by the Supreme Party Court in Munich.

“Party Comrade. SA-Strumbannführer Erich Zarmer, Stettin, Schallehstr. 22, membership number: 44,037, is an assessor of the local court of Stettin – Eckerberg. Against the same and other party comrades, party court proceedings were conducted before the Gau Court. In doing so, it has been disregarded that the disciplinary proceedings should first have been carried out against Pg. Zarmer, since he was a judicial officer. The Osterichter Stettin-Eckerberg has granted Pg. Zarmer a leave of absence in consideration of the party court proceedings. In view of the fact that he has been punished with a warning, Pg. Zarmer has now asked to be relieved of his duties. I would ask you to grant this request and, in view of the fact that the party court has already convicted [him], to refrain from disciplinary proceedings. The party court files concerning Zarmer and Gen. together with Pg. Zarmer’s application for dismissal from office are attached” (“Der Pg. SA-Strumbannfuhrer Erich Zarmer, Stettin, Schallehstr.
