Superb Untouched Early Luftwaffe Officer Sword by SMF

An exceptional example of the early Luftwaffe officer sword by the firm of SMF of Solingen. The sword has early nickel silver fittings that remain untouched and uncleaned. The blade is approximately 28 1/2 inches long, with the sword having an overall length of 36 inches. The blade has some of the usual minor scratches, but it is mirror bright, even though there is surface grime and dirt on the blade, which would certainly benefit from a careful cleaning. The blue leather on the grip and the scabbard show the typical minor scuffs and indentations, but there are no breaks or cuts. The swastikas on each side of the pommel appear to retain their gilt finish beneath the tarnish. The grip is double wrapped with wire. One strand of wire has come loose from the grip just beneath the pommel, and could likely be re-attached rather easily. Overall the sword is in splendid condition with a wonderful dark, uncleaned, patina on all of the nickel silver fittings.
