Superb Early RZM Munich Group Marked SS EM / NCO Service Dagger RZM 120/34

$3,650.00

It is unlikely that a better example could be found of a Model 1933 SS service dagger that was undoubtedly issued to, and worn by, an SS man. The blade of the dagger is mirror bright. While the blade shows typical runner marks and a very small inclusion on the obverse side just below the guard, the blade shows extensive crossgrain and both the obverse SS motto and the reverse RZM logo, contract code, and SS runes are crisp and dark. The black grip exhibits some small, scattered indentations which reflect carrying wear as well as a thin, tiny, and barely perceptible crack between the upper guard and the top of the runes button, but the grip is completely free of chips and makes an excellent appearance. The grip has an inset nickel eagle which shows very fine detail. The enamel SS runes button is free of chips or cracks.  The pommel nut, the upper guard, and the lower guard are all early nickel examples and show a bright and intact finish. The fit of the guards to the grip is extremely snug. The reverse lower guard bears the impressed SS group mark of “I” for Munich. The dagger scabbard is straight with fine plated fittings at the throat and on the base. As is typically found with early SS daggers such as this one, the scabbard had an anodized finish which was painted in the period. There are two spots on the reverse of the scabbard which show wear to the finish, this being the effect of the dagger scabbard having been in constant rubbing contact with the uniform of the SS man who wore the dagger. Attached to the scabbard ring is the leather dagger hanger. The leather at this point shows wear and appears as dark brown, again a feature often seen on the earlier SS daggers. The dagger fits quite tightly into the scabbard. Overall the dagger shows tremendous character while at the same time displaying exceptional condition.
