Sterling Pin Back U.S. Army Sharpshooter Badge Modified to Reflect Marine Corps Service

The sterling silver U.S. Army Sharpshooter badge was modified by the addition of a silver U.S. Marine Corps eagle, globe and anchor to the center obverse. The badge bears the bar for “Pistol-D”, indicating marksmanship expertise with a pistol while dismounted. The Army badge was likely modified by a veteran of the Marine Corps who later served in the U.S. Army, in order to permit him to wear the Army-authorized marksmanship badge while also reflecting the fact that his marksmanship had been demonstrated while serving in the Marine Corps. The badge has a fine, uncleaned patina.
