US Starr 1818 Contract Cavalry Saber

The sword has an overall length of approximately 38 inches, with a blade length of approximately 32 inches. The clipped point blade has a light gray cast to it from age, but it is without chips, nicks, or active rust. The ricasso bears the “U.S.” mark as well as “P” (“Proved”), “LS”, and the “N. Starr” mark of the Nathan Starr firm. The iron “P” style hilt and the guard all exhibit a dark patina. The grips are ribbed wood covered with black leather, with the leather being dry and missing small pieces, but overall the leather covering remains intact. The iron scabbard has the original japanned black finish which shows expected wear and spots of loss, but overall the finish is approximately 75% intact. The scabbard has two suspension rings mounted to the upper edge.
