Stalag VI/G Landesschutzen Battalion Prisoner of War Camp Guard Armband

The white cotton armband bears the designation stamp of prisoner of war camp Stalag VI-G (the term “Stalag” is actually an abbreviation of the formal term “Stammlager” which appears on the armband), the stamp being “M.-Stammlager VI/G” (for “Military Prisoner of War Camp VI-G”). The stamp also identifies the wearer as serving with “Wach-Abschnitt X” (“Guard Section 10”) of the “5/Lds. Schtz. Batl. 489”, this being the 5th Company of Landesschützen Battalion 489. The Landesschützen battalions were comprised of older soldiers who were not fit for front line duty and who served in auxiliary military capacities, usually as guards at prisoner of war camps. Below the camp stamp is an issue stamp for the Landesschützen Batalion itself. The armband has some minor soiling from wear but is in overall very good condition.
