SS Officer’s Silver Lion Head Sword

The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 38 inches, with a blade length of approximately 32 inches. The blade shows a few minor spots and scratches but it is generally very clean and mirror bright. A leather washer is in place at the top of the ricasso. The hilt is silvered aluminum, with the silvering being intact and bright. The black celluloid grip is without chips or cracks and it remains triple wrapped in silver wire. The hilt fittings all exhibit excellent detail, to include the hand finishing touches that was done on the head of the top pommel screw to blend it in with the lion’s mane. The obverse of the guard has an open wing eagle. The pommel is a fine lion head with faceted red glass eyes. The scabbard shows only minor wear, scratches, and age to the gloss black paint. Overall the sword is in excellent condition and it makes a very impressive appearance.
