Souvenir Tobacco Plug from the Battleship Oregon and the Battle of Santiago

The plug of tobacco is approximately 3 inches by 4 inches, and it is contained within a case which is approximately 6 inches by 8 inches. Affixed to the tobacco plug is a handwritten note which reads “This plug of tobacco was on the battleship Oregon when she steamed from San Francisco to Key West in 68 days and took part in the naval battle of Santiago Cuba in July 10, 11, 1898. In Spanish War.” The cased tobacco plug is accompanied by a period postcard of the U.S.S. Oregon.
