SOLD Japanese Navy Officer Shin Gunto Sword
$1,100.00
World War II period Japanese Imperial Navy officer’s sword. The blade is approximately 25 inches long, with an overall length of approximately 37 inches when within the scabbard. The wooden handle is covered in ray skin, over which it is wrapped with olive green fabric in the traditional fashion. The standard military menuki of three cherry blossoms is beneath the wrap. The sword has a ray skin covered scabbard that shows some wear, with there being a split in the skin on the edge of the scabbard that is approximately 20 inches long. There is a plain brass tsuba on the sword. The steel blade is bright with no chips, no edge nicks, and no active rust. There is a very nice straight temper line remains visible and overall the blade is in excellent condition. The original officer’s sword tassel remains tied to the sword. Overall a very impressive example of an Imperial Navy officer’s gunto in nice condition. The tang is not signed but stamped with a navy anchor.
