Single Sided Engraved K98 Dress Bayonet by Paul Seilheimer with Frog and Unit Portepee

$550.00

The blade is quite bright on both sides, with only minor scratches and spots. One side of the blade has the raised “In Memory of My Service Time” declaration, which is flanked on one side by an open winged political style eagle and on the other side by a drop tail Luftwaffe eagle.  On the reverse ricasso is the earlier trademark of the firm of Paul Seilheimer and, above the ricasso, is the leather washer. The black checkered Bakelite grip plates are without chips or cracks. Both the guard and the pommel show only minor signs of age, with some scratches but with bright surfaces and intact plating. The rifle slot contains a red wool insert. The scabbard paint is largely intact, with some minor loss of paint beneath the leather frog. The frog shows typical signs of age, with minor wear and cracks, but the leather is largely bright and supple. Wrapped around the frog is an army unit bayonet porteppe which has a gray fabric strap and a gray “acorn” body, with the “acorn” having a blue cap, yellow stem, and blue slide. This combination of colors on the portepee was designated for use by members of the 17th company of a infantry regiment. Overall the bayonet, frog, and portepee are in excellent condition.
