Signed WWII Japanese Army Officer’s Shin Gunto Sword with Unusual Scabbard
$1,850.00
The Japanese Army officer’s shin gunto sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 38 inches, with a blade length of approximately 25 inches. The blade is generally bright, with typical scattered spots, but it is quite clean and without nicks, chips or rust. The blade has a visible temper line. The tang is signed “Sukekawa Sadamitsu”. The ray skin grip is wrapped in the traditional style with golden fabric which shows soiling from handling in the field, and beneath the wrapping are the traditional military menuki of three cherry blossoms on each side. The tsuba guard is the solid style, with relief cherry blossoms. The scabbard retains its olive brown paint. The scabbard itself is an unusual variant, being wood with a metal throat fitting. Overall excellent condition.
