Signed WWII Japanese Army Officer Shin Gunto Sword

$1,170.00

The blade is approximately 25 1/2 inches long, with an overall length of approximately 39 inches when within the scabbard. The wooden handle is covered in pale yellow ray skin and wrapped with golden brown fabric in the traditional fashion. The standard military menuki of three cherry blossoms are beneath the wrap. The sword has a medium olive brown painted scabbard that shows some wear but on which the original paint is approximately 90% intact. There is a decorative gilt metal tsuba with a cherry blossom pattern. The blade is bright steel and while there are some scratches there are no cracks and there is no active rust. There are perhaps two or three tiny nicks in the cutting edge which are barely perceptible, straight temper line. Overall the blade is bright and in very good condition. The tang beneath the handle is signed “Masa Nori”.
