Signed Old Wakizashi Blade in World War II Army Officer Shin Gunto Mounts
The blade is approximately 20 inches long, with the sword having an overall length of approximately 34 1/2 inches. The blade exhibits a visible temper line and it is generally bright, with some minor scratches and inclusions. The blade is without nicks, chips, or active rust. The tang has two holes and bears the signature of “Kanemitsu”. The tsuba is a pierced style with gilt finish and cherry blossom motif. The grip is covered in light brown skin, with a wrap in the traditional fashion in golden brown silk tape and showing typical service wear and soiling, with Mokko family mon on top mount. The menuki beneath the tape is the traditional military style of three cherry blossoms. The scabbard paint is nearly completely intact. A very fine officer’s sword tassel is tied to the top of the pommel. Overall the wakizashi is in very fine to excellent condition.
