Signed Edo Period Japanese Army Officer Wakizashi in World War II Mounts and Leather Scabbard Cover

The sword has a blade length of approximately 20 inches, measured from the tip of the blade to the lower edge of the collar. The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 35 1/2 inches. The blade is quite bright with a clear temper line. The tang of the blade shows dark rust and two mounting holes, with a signature for Izumi Kami Kanesada. The grip is wrapped in the traditional fashion in dark brown fabric cord and it carries the standard military menuki of three cherry blossoms on each side, a silver family mon is mounted on the top mount. The tsuba is the solid gilt brass style with cherry blossoms. The wood scabbard is enclosed in a leather combat cover. At the base of the grip above the tsuba is a short leather strap which can be fastened to the female closure component located on the top edge of the cover. A very clean officer’s sword tassel is tied to the pommel of the sword. Overall excellent condition.
