Signed 1945 Dated Shin Gunto Japanese Army Officer Sword

The shin gunto sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 39 inches, with a blade length of approximately 26 inches. The blade exhibits signs of age, with a few spots and smudges, but it is generally clean and without nicks, chips or active rust. The blade displays a visible temper line. The tang has two mounting holes and it is signed “Yoshitada”. The opposite side of the tang is dated Match of “Showa 20” (1945). The grip is covered in light sharkskin, and it is tightly wrapped in the traditional manner with brown fabric. Beneath the fabric on each side of the grip are the standard military menuki of three cherry blossoms. The tsuba guard is the solid style in iron. The steel scabbard retains its light brown paint, with wear and scratches. Overall the sword is in very good condition.
