SA Staff Officer M43 Cap

$750.00

The M43 cap is constructed in olive brown wool and the crown is piped with silver cord to indicate officer rank. The front of the cap displays a machine woven SA eagle and swastika, woven in silver wire thread on a bright red base, the color used only by the SA Staff. Interestingly, the flap is closed in the front with two dark brown plastic buttons rather than metal buttons. This was likely because the color of the metal buttons (gold or silver) on SA caps and uniforms were a part of identifying the specific SA group in combination with the color of the insignia, since each color of insignia was used by two different SA groups, with one of those groups using gilt buttons and insignia and the other group using silver buttons and insignia. However, only the SA staff used the bright red color of the insignia on this cap, making the use of colored metal buttons unnecessary. The cap is quite clean, although showing the signs of actual wear and use. The silver piping shows some oxidation, and there are a few minor “pulls” to the fabric or piping, but the cap exterior is without tears, holes, or stains. The interior of the cap shows dark perspiration marks. Overall the cap is in excellent condition.
