Rare U.S. Marine Corps Officer’s 1839 Pattern Buff Dress Sword Belt & Buckle

$10,500.00

The white enameled buff belt is approximately 34 inches in length, with two hanging straps for wear of the sword. The belt plate is the 1839 pattern for Marine Corps officers, with a toned gilt wreath and the toned silver letters of “USM” in “German-text” (gothic style), in accordance with the Orders on Uniforms that were issued by Marine Corps Headquarters on January 23, 1840 and in use until 1851. The belt plate shows some verdigris and uncleaned patina. The surfaces of the belt’s exterior side show typical age cracking and signs of wear, but the belt set is complete, intact, and in overall very good condition.
