Rare 1830’s-40’s Clipped Point Bowie Knife by Alfred Hunter

Circa 1830’s-40’s. Rare bowie knife by Alfred Hunter of Newark NJ who started production in 1836. The knife has an overall length of approximately 12-1/8 inches, with a blade length of approximately 7-1/2 inches. The clipped point blade exhibits a mottled gray appearance and it is without nicks, chips, or active rust. The ricasso is marked “Alfred Hunter”. The rosewood octagon wooden grip is fitted with four German silver plates, while the pommel bears a silver disk that is engraved with a letter “M”. No scabbard.
