Prussian Model 1864 Artillery Short Sword with Etched Blade for the 47th (2nd Kurhessian) Field Artillery Regiment
The Regiment was raised in 1899 in Fulda as a part of the XI Army Corps. The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 24 1/2 inches. The brass grip, guard, and scabbard components all have a dark, uncleaned patina. The plated blade is etched on both sides, with one side bearing the Regimental designation and the opposite side displaying an eagle, a panoply of arms, and a horse’s head. The blade had dark spots but overall remains generally bright. Leather scabbard with tight seams, upper mount missing its stud.
